Nauta Design revives the Perini Navi 56m “Caoz 14”

The Perini Navi Caoz 14, formerly known as Selene and Parsifal IV, is a 56-metre long sailing superyacht that won the “Best refit” category for the “Vitters yacht G2” at the 2019 World Supeyacht Awards.

Today, in spite of her already undisputed beauty, thanks to the passion of her lucky owner and the intervention of Nauta design, she has undergone a deep stylistic restyling, meant to make her more adherent to her new use.

“We wanted to renovate the yacht, starting with a modern, warm, airy and welcoming interior,” explains the owner. “We immediately established a close relationship with Massimo Gino and Mario Pedol of Nauta Design. Their team understood very well what we wanted and interpreted our initial brief excellently”.

Two key words characterize the restyling of the Perini Navi Caoz 14: space and brightness. The owner wanted to open up the spaces both longitudinally, to ensure a deeper field of vision, and transversely, to obtain a full-beam saloon with views of the surrounding landscape from both sides. The Caoz 14 is intended for family use and, for this very reason, the new design had to convey feelings of harmony, tranquillity and lightness.

Nauta Design interpreted the requests and needs of the owner and family man by widening the perspectives, using a new colour palette and creating brighter, more functional spaces.
For example, the crew corridor on the port side of the saloon, together with the dark shades of the colours, created a feeling of isolation from the outside, as did the stairs, which were closed off by bulkheads. Nauta has therefore worked on these details to make the boat’s spaces more open and bright.

“Our aim was to ‘open up’ the spaces and bring the beauty of the natural environment into the yacht,” says Mario Pedol, co-founder of the Milan-based Nauta Design studio. “We therefore worked to eliminate structures and obstacles that blocked the view and complicated interior movements”.

New spaces for the Caoz 14

As mentioned above, the crew corridor on the left has been eliminated and the staircase has been redesigned, with suspended steps inserted on a central support to ensure greater visual continuity.

The forward section of the saloon is now used as a relaxation area, less formal and also suitable as a play area for children, with a TV lounge and extendable table.
A glass panel has been installed between this latter area and the Perini Navi Caoz 14’s helm station to give a sense of continuity and can be darkened if necessary.
The old hinged doors have been replaced with automatic sliding glass doors, which are more comfortable and help to create a brighter environment.

The new colour palette of the Caoz 14

The good aesthetic taste of the owner’s wife has been transposed by the studio into the furniture and fabrics. These include Kashtall carpets, Dedon outdoor seating, an Eames armchair and a Vitra ottoman in the main saloon. The colour palette varies from light oak tones to bright white lacquer floors.

“The study of ergonomics, service routes and their functionality also played an important role in Nauta’s work. The aim was maximum comfort on board, to meet the owner’s requirements who wanted plenty of space for books, art objects and other collections,” says Mr. Pedol. “This part of the work involved creating niches, shelves and other storage spaces, both open and closed”.

Some of the furniture on the Perini Navi Caoz 14 is transformable or convertible to suit different situations, such as the dining table.

Nauta collaborated with Cantalupi to create the lighting system and everything can be controlled through domotics. Particular attention has also been paid to the lamps, made by some famous design houses such as Fontana Arte, Oluce and Artemide.

The other areas of the Caoz 14

The owner wanted the service and crew areas to undergo the same renovation. A sofa was added to the helm station so that guests could also enjoy the cruising experience on the Perini Navi Caoz 14. The previous aft cockpit furniture was replaced with Teak sofas and tables.

The refitting work was carried out in only six months, despite restrictions from Covid-19, in Genoa by MMC Allestimenti.
