Ocean Alexander 37 Legend: where classic and cosmopolitan connect

The secret is out! The Ocean Alexander 37 Legend motor yacht thinks she’s a mega yacht. Given her part classic, part cosmopolitan composition, and boundless 118 feet dimension making her the overall OA portfolio leader, why wouldn’t she?

Her story starts in 2021 when the family-run Taiwanese ship builder brought a triad of new models including the 30R and 35R to the Fort Lauderdale Bahia Mar dock on US shores for the legendary late-October yacht show. Smitten by success, two years into the future, today the 37L continues to lead her own path destined for the horizon.

For hull No. 3, that path included the Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show where the 37L won the hearts of the yachting community during the week of Valentine’s Day. Fortunately, International Yachting Media was on hand for the fanfare and between chatting with vice president of marketing Sally Doleski and personally touring the flagship – her classic low-profile exterior Carolina flare and current-day cosmopolitan air became quite clear.

Marshall Magic – as I call it – is what lures you on board the Ocean Alexander. Many may not know that the 37L is in reality, a 36L with a revitalized twist (and extended swim platform augmenting the length) thanks to the penning of British yacht designer Evan K. Marshall.

A main talking point was putting safety above all else, meaning modifications went deeper than opulent visuals and refined creature comforts. The strategic re-make of the master suite relocating the bathroom to the main deck is most important. Moving the head to the same level just aft of the snoozing area, as opposed to its former position forward on the lower deck, means middle-of-the-night risers must no longer take a few sleepy steps in the darkness.

The slanted angular windows of days and designs gone by were also replaced with heavenly U-shaped window glazing; to which owners are gifted a pleasurable 270-degree panoramic view. Natural light marries with the oceanic sightlines in a manner that not only enhances the voluminous essence, but infuses an enamoring aura to the entire area. (Do note, the original split-style plan remains an option).

From the sleeping quarters we make our way to the eating quarters to glance over the new portside galley door. And while this nicety might not draw the same applause as the owner’s suite revamp, the addition does denote an awful lot to the dedicated crew. The seamlessly integrated second entrance provides the ability to bypass the salon on route to the foredeck and aft deck for staff members, the chef, or any hungry souls fancying an easy in and out to grab a quick bite. Furthermore, it is also advantageous for restocking duties allowing for provisions to be carried onto the vessel through the covered passageway.

Just beyond the galley, the interior epiphany continues reshaping the motoryacht into a floating home. Here we admire the cosmopolitan Poltrona Frau collection of furnishings and its interplay with the hallmark design curves that speak to the Legend line. The perfect example of Ocean Alexander staying true to nautical tradition is visualized through the timeless woods and interior decor finishes available in Novus Dusk (as seen on display at the Miami show) or the lighter toned Novus Mist.

And speaking of mist, you might just feel a little in the air at the downstairs beach club, where our 37L story ends. Arguably one of the coolest outdoor areas to aft, the al-fresco fun spot transports guests to the edge of the water but not quite into the seas, should they not want to wet their Prada polos or Calvin Klein cover-ups.

Here, quality time can be shared with family and friends of all ages. While the little kids do flips off the swim platform, the “big kids” can kick back inside the air-conditioned cabana enjoying: a Spotify chill-out playlist, a pitcher of sangria, and the smiles of their loved ones “living the life” at sea. This is after all, what boating is all about… legendary days forging memories on the water, and no yacht can make this lifestyle more of a reality than being aboard the Ocean Alexander 37 Legend!
